Job description

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing & managing a Quality Management Systems (QMS) in the seafood industry with extensive knowledge of at-sea  processing operations. The candidate will possess solid knowledge of FDA, USDA, HACCP, FSMA, USDC and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.  Verifiable experience in addressing quality and food safety issues from both a corrective and a preventive posture.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain QMS policies and procedures that meet legal requirements and standards; Design, develop, and implement Food Safety and Quality Control training programs. Train and develop quality control technicians and over see their job performance
  • Responsible for vessel HACCP reporting to include data collection, procedure development and record keeping along with corrective & preventative actions.
  • Formulate, document, and maintain quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives.  Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures
  • Analyze non-conformities and quality problems to determine root cause and implement corrective action including addressing customer complaints; Participate in various evaluations, audit, vessel inspections and quality system audits
  • Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with vessel managers to maximize product reliability and minimize cost; Provide and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle
  • Participate in and facilitate training of food safety and quality topics programs, policies, procedures, and documents for new hires, Supervisors/Management, annually as required, or otherwise as needed
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement processes and internal auditing program (root cause analysis problem solving and corrective action); Actively organizing and reviewing processes for continuous improvement 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a food related discipline
  • 5+ years of seafood industry quality experience, vessel experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience desired
  • Knowledgeable about food safety standards within the seafood industry and mandated by government regulations
  • Expertise in HACCP and FSMA
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Intermediate or better skills in MS Office
  • Prior direct experience with FDA and other regulatory agencies strongly preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with time spent on the vessels as needed
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment, as needed/required
  • Environment/work areas can be very wet, slippery
  • Must go to all areas where product is located and test where testing equipment is located
