Fishmeal and fish oil have been a base ingredient of aquaculture and the swine industry for decades. The aquaculture industry will not be able to grow exponentially with the same inclusion rates of marine ingredients, and many companies are now working on replacements. With continued scrutiny over the role of forage fish in aquaculture, especially from uncertified fisheries, we discuss how the industry can redefine its role as a supplier of strategic ingredients and nutrition in the food supply chain.
